World Film: I AM A Global Nomad!

I Am A Global Nomad... A TCK (Third Culture Kid)

I love it, I also used to hate it...
It's sounds like a lot of fun, it also brought a lot of confuson and hurt...

But, I wouldn't change anything about this experience!

Finally, a short film that I can truly relate to on the journey:

HERstory... Venus Lives!

Her name was Saartjie Baartman, also known as HOTTENTOT VENUS - please read her story here.

I posted on her a while ago with a poetry clip... it's amazing how many people still don't know her-story. It's no surprise that she still holds a great energy and gives much inspiration over the topics of sexuality, body image and wombanhood.

Here are some artworks that were inspired by her....

World Film: Skin

HAPPY 2011!!!

As always, the last few days of the year are a time for reflection... but I'm realising more and more that every day is a chance for this and a good opportunity to change things and make new resolutions! This last couple of days felt different though... It just feels like this New year really was the release of the last decade and I'm feeling an amazing new energy...

One of the things I did promise my Self to do was to catch up on films that for some reason I missed completely when they were released... and this was one that made me cry! The fantastic British actress Sophie Okonedo (you'll probably know her best from the film "Hotel Rwanda) stars in this too... (see website)

Excellent movie!!!
If you haven't watched it already, please do ;o)

World Film ~ Time For CHANGE!!!

Last post for 2010...I thought I would round off this month of world films with 2 that bring on a strong message of CHANGE!

I know it remains a contreversial topic that some will agree/disagree on... but I love checking out topics on all areas and I've always wanted this blog to be much more than an exploration of natural hair...Don't get me wrong, I LOVE natural hair blog posts too, but it just *feels* as though there is a lot of raw energy being manifested in many areas, especially in the arts/films out there. I'm hoping to
share much more of that with you here!

If nothing else, I'm taking the positive energy from these videos to symbolize a need to explore my own SELF growth further in 2011, to really push the boundaries and bring on some fire/creative energy to my daily life.

Enjoy 2011!

World Film: Waste Land

I'm always looking out for world films that bring creativity, real life and a clear positive message! This is one that caught my eye...

If you're also a fan of world films and art, watch this space... this month, I'm going to post up a few so stay tuned!

Waste Land is a film that follows Brazil native Vik Muniz as he travels from Brooklyn to Rio's Jardim Gramacho, the planet's largest garbage dump. Upon arrival he begins photographing local recycling pickers and "paints" their portraits with garbage from the dump. Looking much cooler than it sounds, the film is currently playing in theaters across the world.

Below is Waste Land's synopsis from its site:
"Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. Director Lucy Walker (DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND, BLINDSIGHT, COUNTDOWN TO ZERO) has great access to the entire process and, in the end, offers stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit."

Creative Film: Influences

In this fast ppaced life, what is it that really influences your creative energy?

Saw this mini film on the topic of creative influences and how everyone is part of the bigger flow of creative energy.

It is an exciting time to share! Food for thought.
