Celebrate Art: Jean-Michel Basquiat

I've been living around Hackney for just over a year now... when I first told some friends that I was moving to this neighbourhood, they were like "WTF would you move out there?!?". OK, Yes...it is not a beauitful part of town....

Just a while ago, I was sitting in my French class when a girl was expressing where she lived - the instructor asked which part of London it was and when she said Hackney, the whole class went "Ooooooooooooooooh!" - with pinched up faces LOL. It's either you like it or hate it! I thought that too for about a month, until I started seeing another side to it. OK [my.logic.vs.heart.speaking.lol] I'm in London to explore it properly before I leave. I've always known that London is just another temporary stop.

Hackney London apparently has the highest concentration of artists of any London borough and in Europe, with many art studios and "done-up" warehouses. And they are BIG! My SO and I looked for a creative space in this area for a while and found some nice spaces to (potentially) work with! The parties are also super creative and the Hackney Wicked Festival showcases a variety of great talents here too!

There is this one house I pass by every day with a great picture painted outside and it reminded me of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat... See Website
