Loc Inspiration: Luna Angel

Luna Angel
(see her website)

As well as having great style and beautiful locs, her energy radiates brightly! A few Christmas seasons ago, I met her in a surprising way while doing a spot of charity work in one of the central London tube stations. I was collecting change for a charity that I support and she came up to me and put some change in, before realising that we recognised eachother from myspace lol! How starnge it was but it was really lovely chatting to her and Akua Angel.

"Luna Angel (her birth name) was born in 1981 to a Jamaican mother and a French father in Marin County, California. Luna's family was always involved in music, coming down through many generations, music underlies Luna's heritage. Her uncle Junior Marvin was lead guitarist for the legendary Bob Marley's Wailers band. Marvin also played a huge part as a mentor in the early stages of her career. Luna flew to Kingston, Jamaica to complete her first recordings with her uncle at the age of sixteen. At the age of nineteen Luna worked with her first band, named The I-Rise Band. After gaining some performance experience, Luna moved to the Bay Area. Where she attended the Jazz School in Berkeley. Working with her new five piece professional band, Luna has since opened for numerous major reggae acts including The Wailers at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, Alpha Blondy, Toots and the Maytals, Third World, Buju Banton and Michael Franti, to name a few. In 2002, Luna performed at California's largest Reggae festival, Reggae on the River. This occasion gave Luna huge exposure and promotion.

Every song on the debut album has been written, co-produced, and arranged by Luna Angel. "Move With Me" contains elements of Reggae to R&B, down to Jazz, and a spice of Dancehall. Some tunes were even composed during her mid-teens. "
